Stathis Paparoditis

Stathis Paparoditis is Professor of Mathematical Statistics at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus. He was born in Limassol, Cyprus, and grew up in Cairo, Egypt. He graduated from the Ambetios School of Cairo and the Lanitio Gymnasium of Limassol.

He studied Mathematics and Economics at the Free University of Berlin and completed his doctoral dissertation in Mathematical Statistics at the same university in 1990. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Statistics and Quantitative Methods of the Technical University of Berlin. In 1993, he was awarded a postdoctoral Membership by the German Research Foundation (DFG), which supported a one-year research stay at the University of California, San Diego.

At the end of 1993, he returned to Cyprus and joined the University of Cyprus as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, where he was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2004.

Professor Paparoditis is a member of the editorial boards of several leading international scientific journals in the field of Mathematical Statistics. His research focuses on the statistical analysis of time series in finite- and infinite-dimensional spaces, with particular emphasis on the development and mathematical foundations of non-parametric methods of statistical inference, as well as on the development and theoretical investigation of resampling methods for spatially and temporally dependent families of random variables.

He has published more than 70 research articles in international scientific journals, including The Annals of Statistics, Bernoulli, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society – Series B, Biometrika and Econometrica. He has presented his research as an invited speaker at numerous international scientific conferences, universities and research institutions worldwide.

For his outstanding research contributions, Professor Paparoditis was elected Member of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS Member) in 2022.
