Political Risk Laboratory (PoliRiskLab)

Scientific Director: Academician Stavros Zenios

Description
The Political Risk Laboratory (PoliRiskLab) was established by the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts with funding of €100,000 from the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) under the VISION ERC programme, co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the European Regional Development Fund. The laboratory is a member of the RiskLab Global Academic Network, strengthening the international presence of the Cyprus Academy and fostering collaboration in the fields of risk analysis and financial research.

PoliRiskLab is dedicated to the study and quantification of political risk and its impact on markets, businesses, financial institutions, and the fiscal stability of countries. At a time of increasing geopolitical tensions, trade disputes, electoral uncertainty, and international crises, the laboratory aims to develop innovative methodologies for the more accurate assessment and effective management of political risk.

PoliRiskLab employs advanced artificial intelligence and data analytics techniques to produce reliable and consistent political risk indicators from diverse international datasets and measurements. The laboratory’s research focuses in particular on:

  • political risk management by businesses and financial institutions;
  • supply chain resilience;
  • the relationship between political risk and public debt; and
  • the impact of geopolitical developments on financial stability.

Through interdisciplinary research and international collaboration, PoliRiskLab seeks to advance scientific knowledge and develop innovative tools that enhance the understanding, assessment, and management of political risk in an increasingly complex global environment.
