Scientific Director: Academician Kyriakos Demetriou

Description
The Research Office for the Reception of Graeco-Roman Antiquity is dedicated to the systematic study of the multifaceted receptions and appropriations of Graeco-Roman antiquity from Late Antiquity to the present day. The Office focuses on investigating the influence of the classical world on philosophy, political thought, historiography, literature, the visual arts, theatre, cinema, as well as the broader fields of history and culture.

The Office aims to produce original scholarly research, promote interdisciplinary approaches, and foster international collaboration with universities, research centres, and academic institutions. It also encourages the organisation of conferences, workshops, lectures, and research projects, as well as the publication of scholarly monographs and edited volumes, with the objective of highlighting the enduring significance of Graeco-Roman antiquity.

The Office is directed by Academician Kyriakos Demetriou, Series Editor of the Brill’s Companions to Classical Reception series, published by De Gruyter Brill. The series is internationally recognised as one of the leading publication series in the field of Classical Reception Studies and comprises thirty-one published volumes (2014–2026), covering the reception of antiquity in philosophy, literature, history, political thought, the arts, and contemporary culture, with contributions from leading scholars affiliated with universities and research institutions worldwide.

Through its activities, the Office seeks to strengthen the international profile of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts and to contribute to its establishment as a leading centre for the study of the reception of Graeco-Roman antiquity in the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond.
